Letter from the Editor We often spend considerable time with our patients with type 2 diabetes, discussing the cardiovascular risk that increased insulin resistance, increased weight and cholesterol levels, along with decreased physical activity, can have. It is well documented that these risk factors produce a profound increase in cardiovascular deaths. "But what about patients with type 1 diabetes?" was the question I asked our intern, A’kira Shavers, Pharm D candidate from South College of Pharmacy. She did her research and came back with a great article on Type 1 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease that will cause you to look differently at those patients in your practice. ***************************** We can make a difference! ***************************** Dave Joffe Editor-in-chief |
