Government of Canada The Honourable Minister Qualtrough, as part of her mandate to consult with Canadians on Government of Canada Accessibility Legislation, will host a one-day National Youth Forum. The forum is scheduled to take place in Ottawa in November, 2016 and will provide an opportunity for youth with disabilities, and those with considerable work or academic experience in the field, to engage in a policy discussion around proposed accessibility legislation, to connect with peers, and to celebrate youth leadership in building a more accessible Canada.
We encourage you to promote this forum through your networks to all other eligible youth who may be interested in attending. An accessible application package will be hosted on the main consultation website www.Canada.ca/Accessible-Canada in early August.

Le forum aura lieu à Ottawa, en novembre 2016, et offrira l'occasion aux jeunes handicapés et à des jeunes ayant une vaste expérience dans le domaine, acquise au fil de leur parcours professionnel ou scolaire, de participer à une discussion stratégique sur la loi proposée, de rencontrer des pairs et de célébrer le leadership qu'exercent les jeunes dans la création d'un Canada plus accessible.
Veuillez informer la personne désignée de votre intention de la recommander et confirmer son intérêt à participer à l'événement. Ensuite, veuillez nous envoyer le nom de cette personne avec ses coordonnées et une courte biographie. CFJC Today After seven years serving as executive director for the Kamloops Brain Injury Association, Terry-Lynn Stone is retiring. Stone said she plans stay on in the position until a replacement is found, and even then she'll remain on the board. Stone moved from the Lower Mainland in 2009, and she quickly fell in love with the Kamloops community. READ MORE
University of Toronto A 12-metric tonne magnetic resonance imaging scanner (MRI) that landed on the St. George campus of the University of Toronto will make a deep impact on students, faculty and the wider community for years to come, researchers say. Heavier than a dozen elephants, largely due to the density of its magnet, the Siemens Prisma 3 Tesla MRI was lowered into position by crane at its new home at the Centre for Biological Timing and Cognition (CBTC) on Huron Street. Sudbury Star The Sudbury branch of March of Dimes Canada will hold its inaugural 3 versus 3 road hockey tournament Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Long Lake Playground, 4472 Long Lake Road. Residents are invited to sign up for the event geared to people of all ages and experience. Doctors Lounge A traumatic brain injury with loss of consciousness may increase the risk of developing Parkinson's disease, according to research published online in JAMA Neurology. Paul Crane, M.D., M.P.H., a professor of medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, and colleagues collected data on 7,130 older adults, average age 80. Among these individuals, 865 had suffered a TBI and lost consciousness at some point in their lives some fairly early in life. Of these, 142 were unconscious for more than one hour. READ MORE
Huffington Post One year ago at thirty-five years old, I suffered a Post-Partum Stroke. An Acute Subarachnoid Hemorrhage; otherwise known as a brain bleed. I lost my vision, left side function, and the ability to enjoy being alert and present with my brand new baby daughter. The months following my stroke I was hit with the aftershocks of PTSD, Anxiety, Post-Partum Depression, and general fear and loathing throughout my body. I sought healing out through the traditional channels of therapy, support groups, regular doctor visits and the like; and I attribute the beginning of my journey toward healing to those first steps.
