BRAVE Cave: 3 officers arrested, fourth also facing allegations

BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer

Investigations into incidents at the so-called BRAVE Cave continue to roil the Baton Rouge Police Department, as three officers, including one top official, were arrested Thursday in connection with the case. A fourth officer is wanted but did not turn himself in Thursday.

The probes stem from two federal lawsuits claiming people were wrongfully detained and brought to a BRPD warehouse facility that officials said had been used by specialized units like the Street Crimes Unit and Narcotics Division for about a decade to process detainees and package evidence.

Chief Murphy Paul will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Friday to announce "some accountability" in the department's investigative efforts.

Nothing suits you like a custom-made suit. Longtime Baton Rouge tailor Manuel Martinez knows this well after operating his men's clothing business in Baton Rouge since 1984.

The custom-made process starts with a 60- to 90-minute interview that allows Martinez to get to know the customer, to understand them at a professional level and some insight into their personality.

Of course, that fit, style and quality come at a price. A bespoke Martinez suit starts at around $4,000 and goes up from there.

Emily Chatelain, 36, the founder of a well-known after-school feeding program, was selected Thursday to temporarily replace recently resigned Katie Kennison on the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board.

She did draw some criticism for signing a petition in 2015 to incorporate a new City of St. George, plans for which call for creating a companion school district that would break away from the East Baton Rouge Parish system.

Chatelain will represent Baton Rouge District 8 for at least six months until a special election is held March 23.
