Covid deaths rise by 78 people

A further 78 people have died in connection with coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Scotland. It's one of the highest daily death tolls since the pandemic began.

And new daily cases have surpassed any figure previously recorded, with 2,649 more people having tested positive for Covid in the past day.

Harsher lockdown rules warning

These shocking figures come as more shops and businesses face closure to get Covid-19 under control, the First Minister has warned.

Some retailers deemed 'essential' could be closed to provide fewer reasons for people to go outside, Nicola Sturgeon said today.
