  North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper signed the measure rolling back the state' "bathroom bill" into law Thursday. House Bill 2, which was signed into law last year, required transgender people to use bathrooms based on their birth certificate and not by the gender they identify themselves as. The new compromise measure leaves intact the General Assembly's ability to regulate access to restrooms, and it only prevents local governments from adopting non-discrimination ordinances until December 2020.
