A bill intended to force TikTok’s Chinese owner to sell the app was passed unanimously by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The bill could be used to outright ban TikTok from U.S. app stores unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, agrees to divest the social media platform. TikTok sought to rally users to its defense with a call for support in the app that led to some congressional offices getting flooded with phone calls. |
