Former NBC anchor Matt Lauer issued a statement Thursday in the wake of his firing over allegations of sexual misconduct: "There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by my words and actions," it began. "Some of what is being said is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me embarrassed and ashamed." The statement was read at the start of the "Today" show by co-anchors Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
