PHILADELPHIA – December 1, 2018 – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the 101st issue of the Middle East Quarterly (MEQ), its flagship publication, marking the conclusion of 25 years of publication and the start of a new quarter century.

Founded by Daniel Pipes in 1994, the journal has been edited by several distinguished scholars after him: Martin Kramer, Michael Rubin, Denis MacEoin, and (currently) Efraim Karsh. The journal has pioneered unfashionable notions, now widely accepted, such as the Islamist threat and the necessity of Israeli victory for the attainment of Palestinian-Israeli peace.

The Times of London has called the Quarterly an “invaluable source of information on the Middle East.” Bernard Lewis termed it, “Lively and stimulating … interesting and important.”

The Quarterly has been widely quoted and relied upon by the American media, including by CNN, Fox News, the Los Angeles Times, New York TimesWall Street Journal, and Washington Post. International media citations include Reuters, Canada’s Globe and Mail, France’s Le Monde, Germany’s Die Welt, Great Britain’s Telegraph and Financial Times, Turkey’s Zaman, the UAE’s Al-Ittihad, and the Palestinian Al-Quds al-Arabi

The Quarterly serves as a counterweight to periodics on the Middle East dominated by a dogmatic, monolithic approach that fails to address either root causes of the region’s endemic volatility or key issues of the day. In contrast, the Quarterly encourages serious discussion of the region’s most pressing issues, presenting competing points of view. As such, it has built a reputation for asking the hard questions that others would ignore.

As the journal concludes 25 years of publication, the editors are committed to expanding its scope and consolidating its position as a point of reference of in-depth analysis for academics, policymakers, opinion-shapers, and journalists.
