At the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting, the Federal Open Market Committee on Wednesday opted to raise short-term interest rates by 0.25 percentage point to a range of 0.50% and 0.75%. The increase was only the second since 2006; the first was last December when the central bank raised rates by the same margin.
