10 years in Kabul, Skateistan and the Special Olympics, Oscar nomination for film about Skateistan

10 years of fun and freedom in Kabul

Happy new year and welcome to your monthly update of all things Skateistan! This month we kick off with an exciting update from Kabul.

More than ten years ago, in 2009, Skateistan officially opened its doors in Kabul, Afghanistan. Surrounded by members of the local community, eager-looking children and their families, founder of Skateistan Oliver Percovich cut the ribbon on Afghanistan’s biggest indoor sports facility, Skateistan's Skate School in Kabul.

Inclusion in action: Skateistan and Special Olympics South Africa team up!

Students in Johannesburg

Inclusion and accessibility in sport and education are two core values that we believe in at Skateistan. We work proactively to reach children who are often excluded from sporting and educational activities. Last year, we partnered with The Skateroom and Special Olympics South Africa to reach a group of children with intellectual disabilities.
