OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has departed the company, effective immediately, the board of directors said Friday.
“Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities,” the company said in the announcement. “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”
He will also step down from the board as will the current chair Greg Brockman. Brockman will remain in his role as co-founder and president at OpenAI.
Altman has become a staple of the enterprise technology vendor conversation, and his departure raises questions about the company’s future and stability.
