Scotland goes into full lockdown

Big news this afternoon. A full lockdown will be implemented from midnight tonight in level four areas of Scotland, the First Minister has just announced.

Nicola Sturgeon said the situation is "extremely serious" and the new strain of coronavirus is a "massive blow" to attempts to control its spread.

The new lockdown is expected to be as serious as last March's with people being told to stay at home except for essential reasons.

Read everything we know so far about this new lockdown here.

What does that mean for schools?

Well, it means children won't go back until at least 1 February.

It was hoped pupils would be returning to school in the next few weeks but these plans have been scrapped with the latest development.

How will you be affected by this? Tell us your story by emailing the address at the bottom of this newsletter.

And here's all you need to know about schools remaining closed.
