Christmas concerns

Nicola Sturgeon has warned Scots they are "unlikely to celebrate Christmas" with no limits this year as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

Latest coronavirus figures

Scotland has recorded 17 deaths from coronavirus and 1,712 positive tests in the past 24 hours, Ms Sturgeon said.

The First Minister told the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing the death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – has risen to 2,670.

Jason Leitch branded a 'Grinch' by FM

Nicola Sturgeon jokingly said national clinical director Jason Leitch should perhaps dress as the Grinch at the next briefing after recent comments.

The First Minister makes light of some concerning comments from Mr Leitch earlier today. Appearing on BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland on Thursday, Scotland's national clinical director said Scots should “get their digital Christmas ready” as he warned that this year's festive season is “not going to be normal” amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
