| | The Senate gave final congressional approval Thursday evening to a two-week extension of federal spending, avoiding for now a partial shutdown of the government. The Senate vote came shortly after the House had approved the legislation 235-193. President Trump has said he will sign the bill, which provides funding for the federal government through Dec. 22. Much of the government would have shut down midnight Friday if no action had been taken. Congress still faces deep disagreements over a range of issues, including spending levels and immigration, which are preventing passage of a longer-term spending bill.
