The Senate on Saturday passed a bill to keep the government open for another 45 days, avoiding a disastrous government shutdown that was set to begin after midnight affecting pay for millions of Americans.

President Joe Biden is expected to sign the bill into law, buying Congress more time to hammer out funding bills to try to avoid another crisis when this spending authority runs out in November.
