The defending champion U.S. women’s national team won its first match of the World Cup, defeating Vietnam 3-0.

Forward Sophia Smith contributed two goals in her World Cup debut to put the Americans up 2-0 at the half. Captain Lindsey Horan scored a second-half goal to seal the win.
