December 2, 2021

Hard to believe it's already December! There's major travel news so scroll down to read what travelers need to know.

On a personal note: After I sent last week's newsletter, I went to LAX to do a mileage run and surprise my dad at his long-term care facility in Connecticut. Although the days surrounding Thanksgiving are typically the busiest travel days of the year, few talk about how Thanksgiving Day is the slowest. That's why we celebrated the day before so I could take advantage of cheap fares and empty airports and airplanes. I had no one sitting behind me and just one person in front. When was the last time that happened? Here are my trip reports: LAX-JFK in JetBlue's Mint, spending the night in NYC and visiting my dad and flying back to LAX on American. There's also video of my dad reciting a poem about me on my Facebook page.

It’s Official: The US Just Made 2 Big Changes for Travel and This is What Travelers Need to Know
As expected, the U.S. did indeed announce big changes for all international travelers, including fully vaccinated Americans but thankfully, they stopped short of what the travel industry feared the most. President Biden led off his press conference reiterating that the Omicron variant is a cause for concern, not a cause for panic. He then laid out his administration’s plan, which every traveler needs to know

4 Things Bradley Cooper Did Wrong Before NYC Subway Knifepoint Hold Up
One of the biggest travel headlines of the week was around Bradley Cooper, who just revealed some details of being held up at knifepoint midday on a New York City subway. There are four things Cooper did wrong and all travelers can learn from his mistakes.

Travel Product of the Day
We wrote about this product in our gift guide, which is something that every flight attendant and frequent traveler keeps in their carry-on bag: A portable charger, because you never know if your plane will have a power port that works and who wants to sit around in an airport anymore? The Crave Travel Pro power bank, which fits in the palm of your hand, can charge your devices to full quickly (3400mah) and efficiently. Not only that, but each fully-charged Crave power bank can charge your smartphone from 0-100% battery power four times. It’s a handy and powerful gadget that all travelers should stash in their carry-on. Crave was kind enough to give JohnnyJet.com readers a 10% OFF site-wide discount, using the code JOHNNYJET10.

Travel Tweet of the Day
@DrLeanaWen: "The finding of an omicron infection in a Minnesota resident who had no international travel means that there is spread in the United States. There will be many more cases to come. Vaccination + boosters + testing + masking in indoor public places remain our best protection."
