A rash of shootings, a million-case COVID milestone

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. Here's a rundown of some of our top stories today.

Spate of shootings

A BRFD investigator shot at a naked man who broke into his service truck Tuesday, officials told us. It was one of several shootings that took place in Baton Rouge during the first few days this week, which kicked off with an especially bloody MLK Day in which six were shot and three killed.

A million and counting

Louisiana surpassed the million mark in COVID cases. The grim milestone came Tuesday, health officials told us. That means about 1 in 5 Louisianans have tested positive for the virus since the dawn of the pandemic.

Free tests

Speaking of which … as the pandemic enters its third year and exceeds the million-case mark in Louisiana, the government is finally offering free home COVID tests. Click here to find out how to order one.
