Brian Kelly and the Rotarians

The big LSU football news Wednesday?

Not that preseason practice begins in a week. Or that the Tigers picked up a top-notch commitment from Orlando (I'm reminded of that Disney cartoon with Goofy demonstrating how to play football).

No, the big news is that Brian Kelly is joining the Rotary Club.

OK, that's not big news. But it was one of the more unexpected things the LSU coach said as he addressed a packed luncheon of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club at Tiger Stadium's South Stadium Club. It was, as has been the tradition for years, Kelly's last big public appearance before camp begins.

Hopes are high for LSU, higher than they've been probably since 2019. It's important to be strong in the trenches, and Kelly said he believes the offensive and defensive lines will be strengths of the 2023 Tigers.

Here's my three takeaways of other things Kelly said. And here's my column on Kelly talking about what LSU is doing to aim for being an elite program again. And here is my column on LSU Olympic hopefuls with one year to go until the start of the 2024 Paris Games (July 26-Aug. 11).

There's no getting rid of me, is there? Actually, I'm done.

Back to that commitment. Cai Bates is the latest prospect to pledge to the Tigers for the 2023-24 recruiting cycle. LSU now has 20 commitments total.

Finally, here's a list of five players who could have breakout seasons for the Tigers this fall.

Thanks for subscribing and following us. You've almost made it through the offseason, so don't stop now. Just a few more days until preseason practice begins.

Let's do this again Saturday, shall we?
