Bribery after Hurricane Ida?

The head of the St. Helena Parish police jury was arrested yesterday, accused of taking bribes in exchange for influencing emergency contracts after Hurricane Ida. 

Ida smashed many parts of the rural parish. Our reporters are digging for more details on how a top parish leader allegedly took advantage of that destruction.


Cynthia Perkins will testify against her husband

Cynthia Perkins, the former teacher who is accused of a long list of horrific sex crimes alongside her ex-husband, pleaded guilty to some of them yesterday. It's part of a plea deal in which she agreed to testify against her ex-husband, a former top Livingston Parish sheriff's deputy. 


Inside the surge in domestic violence

We've written before about how rising domestic violence played a big role in Baton Rouge shattering its record for homicides, but a new report by the district attorney sheds new light on what's causing that rise. 

The report puts grim numbers to the domestic violence trend and gives some explanations for what's happening.
