The Australian Government has updated the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and introduced the Commonwealth Supplier Code of Conduct to expand the exemptions and increase contract quotas for small to medium businesses services.

The State Government is lowering the threshold requirement for pre-assessment certificates for its suppliers and sub-contractors in September. This means more businesses will need a pre-assessment certificate to participate in State Government tenders and procurements.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand have introduced new Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) regulations to the Food Standards Code.   

Allergen declarations must be made in bold font in the statement of ingredients list (e.g. milk powder, egg yolk, flavour (wheat maltodextrin, sesame oil). An allergen summary statement, in bold font starting with the word ‘contains’ must be included underneath or alongside the ingredient list.
