Brimbank City Council has joined the Small Business Friendly Council (SBFC) initiative to help create a fair and competitive trading environment for small business. 

Commitments in the Small Business Friendly Charter, include:

  • Pay small business supplier invoices within 14 days
  • Support local businesses in managing the disruption caused by infrastructure projects
  • Streamline approval processes for people looking to open a business in the area
  • Help set up and support local business networks.

Is your COVIDSafe Plan Up to Date?

The Victorian Government is offering a free, independent review of your COVIDSafe Plan and advice from Ernst & Young to ensure it is up to date.

Every business must have a COVIDSafe Plan to protect workers and customers.

Ernst & Young will:

  • Consider your COVIDSafe Plan.
  • Meet with you to discuss how you have implemented the plan.
  • Provide confidential advice on how to improve.

To book a review, email covidsafeplanreview@djpr.vic.gov.au with your business name, a contact name and phone number. 

The State Government are running free COVID Safety forums on Victoria’s Roadmap and COVIDSafe settings.

Sessions include:

  • Updates on the Roadmap and restrictions settings
  • Chief Health Officer Directions (including the vaccination requirement for workers)
  • Business requirements (including COVIDSafe Plans, QR codes and vaccine status check-in)
  • Business support services (including worker support payments, and health and wellbeing)
  • Signage and posters
  • Penalties
  • Discussion and questions.

The Mainstreet Australia Awards celebrate the achievements of the people, programs and organisations that ensure the ongoing success and survival of main streets.

Brimbank projects won three categories. 

Brimbank City Council won the award for Main Street Public Space and Streetscape Design Award for the delivery of the multi-million dollar Hampshire Road Civic Green project.

Western Melbourne Tourism won the award for Best COVID-19 Response Initiative in a Main Street for the delivery of Westside Crawls, a collaboration between Melbourne Food and Wine, Western Melbourne Tourism (WMT) and six Western Melbourne councils. Restaurants in both Sunshine and St Albans Town Centres participated in the event.

St Albans Business Association also received an award for Program Initiative, Activity or Event Award: With a budget under $100k (with a special rate) for the Digital Lunar New Year Festival 2021.

As restrictions ease, Council is planning delivery of its Enjoy Local activation program in a large number of Activity Centres across Brimbank.

COVID Safe events are starting in December, including roving performers, live entertainment and children’s activities.

This year’s Enjoy Local activation program is funded by a $575,000 grant from the State Governments Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions Outdoor Activation Fund. Stay tuned for more announcements made possible through this grant.

At no cost, employers in Brimbank can list their vacancies directly on Brimbank JobLink, access applications from local jobseekers and take advantage of the Knowledge Centre.

Nominations for the 2022 Brimbank City Council Australia Day Citizen and Young Citizen Awards are now open!

The Australia Day Awards celebrate the exceptional contributions, hard work and determination of community members making a positive difference in Brimbank.

There are two categories:     

Brimbank Citizen of the Year Award - For Brimbank citizens over 26 years of age (on 26 January 2022)

Brimbank Young Citizen of the Year Award - For Brimbank citizens under 26 years of age (on 26 January 2022)

Nominations can be submitted online now via the Brimbank City Council website, until Friday 3rd December when nominations close Nominate here.

We are excited to announce our first face-to-face Business Breakfast is scheduled for 25 February 2022.

This event is an opportunity for like-minded businesses to network and enjoy hearing from an inspirational business speaker over a cooked breakfast in the spectacular historical Overnewton Castle.

The Victorian Government’s Small Business Bus will be visiting Deer Park Shopping Village (819b Ballarat Road) on the 8th of December between 10am-4pm.
