Good morning and thanks for starting your week with us. Here are some of the day's top headlines.
Port oversight: Despite their critical importance to the local economy, Louisiana is the only coastal state in the South that does not have some kind of central body to create strategic plans and guide investment into its ports. A bill moving through the state Legislature aims to change that. Tony McAuley has the details.
'Tort reform': Plans to prevent big damage claims against businesses and insurance companies after storms or car accidents — a conservative priority dubbed “tort reform” — have fallen short. Tyler Bridges and James Finn explain why the effort is faltering despite Republican supermajorities in the state Capitol.
Aurora euphoria: They're not called the Northern Lights for nothing, but this weekend an aurora made a cameo appearance in the South thanks to a geomagnetic storm. Some lucky Louisianans even caught a glimpse of the breathtaking natural light display. Here are some photos of the view around Louisiana and a look at why the phenomenon is hard to see from New Orleans.
