Have your say about the United Kingdom Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA)
About the UKVFTA: The United Kingdom Vietnam Free Trade Agreement is based on the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the European Union Free Trade Agreements with third countries. The newly promulgated UKVFTA includes several new rules and measures with regard to tariff-rate quotas, rules of origin, preferential tariffs, and service promotions. This is a symbolic step in consolidating the strong economic partnership between Vietnam and the UK.
The Free Trade Agreement covers 5.1 billion GBP in trade. This indeed provides a platform to promote trade and investment growth, as well as a certainty to the UK and Vietnamese businesses.
Also, it secures access to staged tariff reductions between the Uk and Vietnam. The deal locks in the 65% of all tariffs that have been eliminated on UK-Vietnam trade and will increase to 99% after six years. This is also a step forward into the UK's membership of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
