To kick off the highlights…our Modern and Contemporary Art Auction ended Sunday 7th May and in keeping with the celebration of 'Britishness', the top spots of the auction were all taken by British artists!
The leading artist of the sale was the ever popular, Donald McIntyre RCA (1923-2009). Lot 3 ‘Rocky Coast’ sold for £4,500, Lot 38 ‘Cottage on the Rocks’ sold for £4,200, Lot 39 ‘Port en Caple’ sold for £1,600.
There was fierce competition over a large single-owner collection of artworks by Manchester artist Arthur Cyril Hilton (1897-1960), which achieved in excess of £9,000 (+fees). Bidders were still battling over his works over an hour after the auction was scheduled to finish. The highlight of the collection was lot 64- containing the artist’s folio of sketches along with exhibition journals and photographs which soared over its £300-£500 estimate to sell for a hammer price of £2,650, an auction record for the artist. |

| China, a large collection of stamps, booklets and miniature sheets (1960-90) Sold for £7,500 ANTIQUES & INTERIORS AUCTION 7th MAY The May Antiques and Interiors Auction took place on Wednesday 10th. The highlight of the sale was a beautiful collection of stamps containing many high price sets, the star of which is the 1980 Year of the Monkey which sold for £7,500. Within the interiors category a smart pair of reproduction Louis XVI style upholstered mahogany armchairs sold for £1,200. |

| A Chinese brocaded silk summer weight robe, Jifu Sold for £2,100 ASIAN ART AUCTION 11th MAY We ended the week with the Asian Art Auction on 11th May. The highlight of the auction was a stunning Chinese brocaded silk summer weight robe which sold for £2,100. The robe was made of dark burgundy silk woven with a central dragon encircling a flaming pearl, with two further dragons amid clouds above lishui waves, anchored by a central mountain, the long sleeves with horse-shoe cuffs. Another highlight of the sale was a Chinese famille rose porcelain bottle vase of the Republic period, 24cm high, together with a small bottle vase, 14.5cm, realised £1,150. |
