For 24 hours it looked like Antonio Brown might be finished with the Raiders and now he's PLAYING WEEK 1!? We fired up the emergency podcast machine once again as Ryan Wilson joined me to break down everything that happened, from Mike Mayock (if I'm him, I'm out) to Vontaze 'Peacemaker' Burfict to what A.B. will do next.
I get why people are all over the Browns. They're fun! They've got Baker Mayfield and OBJ and they're a sleeper to win the Super Bowl. But they're not going to come out and, ahem, wreck this league, and the Titans are a good team. I think it will be a rough opener for Cleveland, and I've got four more best bets (sorry K.C.) plus our BONUS PODCAST PARLAY.
Forget about kicker, the real question for the Bears might be, can Carli Lloyd play quarterback? The NFL kicked off its 100th season in Chicago, and the boo birds were out for Mitchell Trubisky, who led his team to three total points. The Lions will face a Cardinals team missing cornerbacks Patrick Peterson (suspension) and Robert Alford (broken leg) which should be great news for Marvin Jones. Jamey Eisenberg says those who took a chance on Jones will reap the rewards in Week 1, and Jamey's got more sleepers who can help, including a pair of Seahawks set to soar.
The Rams are the defending NFC champs, but Jason La Canfora has a few questions. What will Todd Gurley and Cooper Kupp look like? How will they handle high expectations? And what about playing at 10 a.m. PT? Jason says Cam Newton and the Panthers are getting extreme value at home, and he's got more best bets; one's a steal he's had his eye on all summer.
Anyone can put together a great 53-man roster if there aren't any rules, but it gets tricky if a salary cap's in play. Joel Corry has lots of experience making the numbers work from his time as an agent, and he put together the ultimate roster. It includes a surprising luxury item in the backfield, made possible by a cost-effective QB.
