A distinguished career: The U.K.’s chief “mouser” retires after years of serviceAs far as government jobs are concerned, you can’t do much better than “Chief Mouser” if you happen to be a cat. It’s an important job in the U.K. Foreign Office, and the current Mouser, Mr. Palmerston, has announced that he’s stepping down from service to enjoy his well-earned retirement. Palmerston started his career as a rescue cat adopted by one of the resident diplomats and rose to fame after helping to rid the office of mice and other pests. According to Jon Benjamin, the director of the department’s Diplomatic Academy, “He left us a slightly chewed dead mouse next to my desk once.
