Brands can yield more substantial results from their influencer relations by considering both macro or micro-influencers, qualifying their reach and targeting audiences accordingly, suggests Shannon Tucker, Next PR's vice president. Integrate influencer efforts with social campaigns and events and enlist "influencers with similar audiences who can share the same message or promote the same product -- repeatedly."

Podcast marketing appears immune to spending cutbacks

Programmatic podcast advertising will nearly triple before 2027 and 83% of marketers already using the medium plan to spend more during 2023, Acast research shows. One firm notes that its clients' spending increased by a factor of 10 during 2022.

Home buyers sidelined last year by rising mortgage rates are coming back to the market, though broader economic trends will continue to hold sway over buying activity, experts predict. "It's jobs, jobs, jobs," said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac's chief economist, adding "if all these recession forecasts come to fruition, it would be a big deal."

With the Federal Reserve's announcement of a 25-basis-point increase in interest rates, consumers should expect to see most of their monthly bills to rise as well, experts said, including credit cards, mortgage payments and auto loan payments for new buyers. LendingTree's chief credit analyst, Matt Schulz, advises consumers to consolidate their high-interest credit card bills in a personal loan, for which they may get favorable rates if their credit score is good enough.

Amid lawmakers' ongoing dispute over resolving the debt limit crisis, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has delivered a blunt statement, saying, "There's only one way forward here, and that is for Congress to raise the debt ceiling so that the United States government can pay all of its obligations when due." He added that "no one should assume that the Fed can protect the economy from the consequences of failing to act in a timely manner."
