The data confirm that SIC is a prolific authority in this area: in 2024, it imposed fines totaling more than three billion pesos, a 42% increase compared to 2023, and 97% of those sanctions were imposed on data controllers. Additionally, approximately 1 out of every 10 information requests escalated to a formal investigation during that same year, demonstrating how quickly a simple request can turn into a sanctioning process. Looking ahead to 2025, nearly half of the sanctions are due to the lack of authorization from data subjects, which shows that consent remains the most critical aspect of compliance.
