Burning Kumquat Thrives While Students Away

Days after the university announced that students would not be able to return from spring break, the Office of Sustainability, student leaders from the Burning Kumquat, and faculty fellows living on-campus quickly started to organize to ensure that the on-campus farm would be maintained and cultivated. Today, thanks to the hard work of people on the ground, including faculty fellow Trevor Sangre and their family (photo above) and Grounds Services and contractor Focal Pointe, the garden is thriving. Harvests are being either donated to local food pantries or preserved for the fall, and the space is benefitting from landscape and infrastructure upgrades. “We definitely couldn’t have continued as a club without their help,” said Maya Tsingos, a rising sophomore. “We’re so incredibly grateful for all of their efforts and really happy that they are able to continue what we can’t. And we hope that they are able to enjoy a little bit of the garden that we love.” More>>
