The City of Cockburn has partnered with Business Station to deliver the Thrive Program, a program aimed at providing businesses with the tools to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing environment.

Commencing in 2022 the six-month program comprises:
  • Pre-work support program
  • 3 x 3 hour professional workshops
  • follow up mentor support sessions
  • fortnightly accountability check-ins
  • access to digital solutions specialist advice
  • an individual marketing and strategic plan
  • 90-day review strategy sessions.

Covid-19 Update

Whether you’re a business owner or you manage a venue, it is important to keep your staff, customers and community safe from the risks of COVID-19. Information is available at wa.gov.au if your business is required to check staff and patrons' proof of Covid-19 status.

Small businesses operating in the hospitality sector, the music events industry or the creative and performing arts sector are eligible to apply for this grant if you were directly financially impacted by the restrictions from Thursday 23 December - Tuesday 4 January.

Covid-19 Support

The Small Business Development Corporation has created a Covid-19 assistance centre to provide dedicated, timely guidance on available support options, including:  
  • information on available stimulus packages and eligibility requirements  
  • advice on preparing businesses to manage impacts  
  • a Frequently Asked Questions page to help employers navigate this challenging time
  • other resources.

Bright sparks build training ties with Indonesia

The City of Cockburn Economic Development team is fostering new international opportunities in Indonesia to assist local business to build capacity and capability.

The Jandakot based Electrical & Communications Association of WA (ECA WA) , and the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deliver specialised training to Indonesian students.

With the assistance of the City of Cockburn, ECA WA is finalising contracts to deliver electrical training programs for an estimated 85,000 Indonesian electrical students over a 10-year period. Training programs will be delivered locally and online.

This agreement will generate in excess over $4m in licensing income, create jobs for the Jandakot region and build a stronger, more diverse local economy.

The City is working with all levels of government to:

  • Deliver transport networks to your home & work

  • Provide more vegetation and use elements of nature in transport designs.

If you would like to make your business more sustainable, or have an eco-friendly initiative that is ready to go, the City’s Sustainable Grants program is just what your small business needs!

Successful applicants can apply for up to $4,000 towards a project that will contribute to a better tomorrow.

Previous winners Fin's Seafood designed and manufactured a zero waste fish filleting bench, allowing them to drastically reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and enabling them to divert scraps for reuse to create additional product lines.

Are you ready to go plastic free?

Western Australia's Plan for Plastics required the phase out of single-use plastic bowls, cups, plates, cutlery, stirrers, straws, polystyrene food containers, thick plastic bags and helium balloon releases by the end of the year. will be fully implemented by the end of 2022, four years earlier than originally planned. The Plan for Plastics information for retailers can be found here.

The WA State Government has engaged the National Retail Association (NRA) to help support businesses to comply with the ban and identify suitable alternatives. The NRA has a toll-free phone line (1800 817 723) to respond to questions from businesses.
