Business innovators – step up
Curtin Ignition 2022 | Closing Friday 15July
The City is again sponsoring two places in the renowned Curtin Ignition Entrepreneur Program.Curtin Ignition is an intensive one week training program (held in September) for aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators to trial and prepare business ideas for launching.

The program comprises of practical teaching sessions, expert clinics, mentor sessions and experienced advice and support from a diverse array of accomplished business mentors.

Two lucky residents of Cockburn will have an all expenses paid emersion into the world of accelerated business growth. They will gain the tools, contacts and confidence to transform their idea into a successful business venture.

Marketing, Digital Skills and Know-how...

Is your business asking for a full publicity make over?  If so, this is the place to take it! In collaboration with Business Foundations the City is offering 10 fully funded places in this four day course (spread out over four weeks). 

The
Amplify Program is valued at $1,500pp and covers branding, copywriting, social media, creating graphics and a lot more. Further information can be found HERE.

Applications are required by 18 July and the course commences 3 August.

Small & medium business
bidding for major projects

A State Government grant fund of $2million is now available to assist small and medium businesses to bid for key public and private sector projects.
 
The “Local Capability Fund” offers up to $50,000 per application to strengthen the capacity of local businesses to supply goods, services and works.  Grants can be used to pay for consultant advice on a range of matters including finance and cybersecurity; they can cover buying and upgrading essential equipment or meeting pre-qualification requirements for supply chain entry.

Striker Crushing are bringing it home

Striker Crushing (Henderson) has announced a successful bid for a Federal grant of $3.4million to re-locate their manufacturing from Asia to Cockburn.  This will significantly expand their capacity and create 20+ jobs in advanced manufacturing.

Local introductions for Indonesian
Consul General

On 13 June, 2022 the City hosted the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia with an industry round table discussion and tour of the region, including the Australian Marine Complex, Henderson and the College of Electrical Training, Jandakot. 

As a result of the free trade agreement – “Indonesian-Australian Comprehensive Economic Exchange Agreement” (IA-CEPA) adopted in July 2020, Australian industry and many industries across Cockburn are well placed to expand their customer market base.

Lease agreement signed on Perth wave park

News of the State Government’s lease agreement with Aventuur for the establishment of a multimillion-dollar state-of-the-art wave park in Jandakot is an exciting milestone for the City of Cockburn and our community.

Mayor Logan Howlett, WA Planning Minister Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA, WAPC Chairman David Caddy, Aventuur Chairman Andrew Ross, Member for Jandakot Yaz Mubarakai, Member for Cockburn David Scaife MLA and Surfing Western Australia board member Warrick Hazeldine GAICD were on site for the announcement.

The City has partnered with ClimateClever to provide a 50% discount for Cockburn based businesses to tackle their carbon output and access tools to become carbon neutral.
