Austal delivers fifth Guardian patrol boat, gifted to Solomon Islands


The fifth Guardian class patrol boat, built by Austal at its Henderson shipyard, was delivered to the Department of Defence which has gifted the boat to the Solomon Islands. 

The Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project was awarded to Austal in May 2016, ensuring the production of 21 vessels valued at more than $335 million. 

Twelve Pacific Island nations including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Timor Leste will receive the vessels over a four year period as part of the Federal Government’s $2 billion Pacific Maritime Security Program. Five Guardian class patrol boats have been delivered in the last 12 months.

The project supports more than 200 direct jobs at Austal Australia and more than 200 indirect jobs through Australian support industries involved in the project.

Introducing Lake Coogee

After a community supported call for a new suburb to replace parts of Munster, Lake Coogee will come into being from 30 March 2020.

Landgate has advised Australia Post, WA Police, St John Ambulance, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, WA Electoral Commission and the Water Corporation. Due to privacy reasons, Landgate and the City of Cockburn are unable to change your personal details with banks, insurance companies and so on. Businesses in the area will need update their customers and other relavant organisations. Read more.

TAFE Partnership with Rio Tinto delivers an Australian first


Starting at South Metropolitan TAFE Munster campus in 2020, the nationally recognised Certificate IV in Autonomous Control and Remote Operations was developed through the Resource Industry Collaboration, a landmark partnership between the WA Government, SMTAFE and Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

The partnership aims to ensure Western Australian workers are prepared for industry advancements, innovation and automation. Pending successful completion of the pilot with 30 Rio Tinto staff, the first course will start in 2021. The course will give students the knowledge and skills to work at some of Australia's top-tier automation facilities, such as Rio Tinto's Remote Operations Centre in Perth.

Assisting SME's and attracting investment

As part of the WA Government’s push to assist SME’s and attract investment into the state, Invest and Trade Western Australia is a new online portal for investors and customers interested in doing business with Western Australia. 

Lunching in early 2020, Invest and Trade WA will provides vital information and support for WA's export-ready small and medium-sized enterprises who want help to reach their export potential. Invest and Trade WA will deliver a collaborative, responsive and client-focussed service that makes connections between businesses and investors, expanding and diversifying the economy. 

The Invest and Trade WA team is located in the State's economic development agency, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, and will work across government to capture and respond to investment and trade opportunities.

More will be delivered early next year to create the State's 'shop front' and better position WA in interstate and overseas markets. More information and contacts to the Invest and Trade WA team is available at http://www.jtsi.wa.gov.au/investandtrade.

The Common User Facility (CUF) is a multi-industry facility based on the waterfront at the Australian Marine Complex and is available to businesses on a short term or project based duration. The CUF has an open access policy and is large enough for a number of different companies to undertake their projects at any one time, using the CUF as an extension of their workplace.It is utilised by marine, resource, oil & gas and defence organisations.

The CUF is a safe and secure location for fabrication, assembly, commissioning, maintenance and repair activities with off-load and load-out facilities. The Facility Manager contracts with the User to provide the facilities required to meet their project needs. 

The facility adds to the capabilities and services you are able to offer your clients, providing world-class, safe and secure facilities on prime waterfront with an extensive supply chain on your doorstep.
