Cockburn Businesses Amplify their Marketing Skills

When it comes to marketing, there’s never just one way to do things. Your marketing is like a recipe, there are a lot of ingredients that go into making it work for your business.

Attending workshops and training programs is a great way to learn about the different ingredients, but it can be hard to find a program that helps you put them all together. That’s why we were excited to collaborate with Business Foundations to do just that in Amplify!

Earlier in the year the City sponsored eight places on the Amplify program. We are delighted to share that the first round has just concluded, and our local Cockburn graduates agree it was a great way to gain the knowledge, tools and strategies to move forward in their business.

If would like to be part of a future round of Amplify or a similar program, then let us know! Email our Business Engagement Officer, Lisa Kniebe at lkniebe@cockburn.wa.gov.au and express your interest in future training opportunities.

What Does R U OK Day Mean for Small Business Owners?

Cockburn is home to 8288 small and micro businesses, with one third based at home. While running a business can be extremely rewarding, it also brings a unique set of challenges. It’s common for business owners to:

  • Work long hours that blur the boundaries between work and home
  • Experience financial pressures and uncertainty around income
  • Feel isolated and unable to share the worries with someone who understands
  • Juggle many roles within their business, feeling constantly under pressure.

Does this sound like you? Or someone you know? It’s time to ask – R U OK.
This Thursday 8 September is R U OK Day, a time to pause, check-in with yourself and the people around you. Get the resources you need from their website here.

R U OK Day focuses on asking the question of others, but it’s just as important to ask yourself. To get started, why not take the free Business Stress Test, developed by Ahead for Business.

How to Find Government Grants for Your Business

Have you applied for a government grant before?

It may surprise you that there are a vast array of government grants available for all types of businesses and sectors. So how do you know when they open, who is eligible and where to apply?

Finding government grants doesn’t have to be hard.

To help you navigate funding and grants, the Australian Government has created a free Grants and Programs Finder tool. It’s simple to use, allowing you to narrow your search by:
  • location
  • industry
  • business type
  • support required
  • objectives
  • business stage
  • grant status
  • Indigenous businesses.
And don’t forget the City of Cockburn opens their business grants program twice a year, with $100,000 of funding available, so stay tuned for more information later in the year.
