Busted with 101 stolen catalytic converters

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning! Here are a few of our most interesting reads.

Catalytic converter ring busted

Baton Rouge Police say they confiscated 101 catalytic converters from a duo who had been sawing them off cars all over the Baton Rouge region. In addition to the purloined car parts, BRPD also says the pair had a whole bunch of drugs on them.

As we've written previously, catalytic converters are a surprisingly common thing to steal.

Concerns about the juvenile jail

In yesterday afternoon's newsletter, we told you about another incident at Baton Rouge's juvenile jail. Later in the day, we got more details — and some pretty fiery comments from the district attorney, who says the jail is in terrible shape and may need to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Redistricting's racial tensions

As the Louisiana Legislature draws new voting maps for itself and the U.S. House delegation, one of the central questions is: Shoud Louisiana have two majority-Black congressional districts instead of one?

Our politics team explains the arguments going on at the Capitol, and how they might affect voters.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
