| | | Cockburn's Aussie first reef to double in size Marine and snorkelling enthusiasts in Cockburn will soon have reason to celebrate — the City’s erosion reduction reef off the shore of C.Y. O'Connor Beach is doubling in size. The artificial reef is the first of its kind in Australia and was installed as a trial in March 2022. Over the last two years, it's become a thriving ecosystem and popular snorkelling and diving spot with the reef’s concrete modules perfect for marine flora and seaweed growth. Installation of stage 2 will start on 21 October and is expected to take about four weeks. The artificial reef and the offshore operational area around it will be temporarily closed to swimmers, snorkellers, divers and marine vessels. |

| | Bin tagging starts in Aubin Grove Our community waste education team will visit around 370 households in Aubin Grove through September and October as part of our annual bin tagging program. The team will do simple ‘under the lid’ checks on bin collection days, providing tailored feedback on a tag attached to the bin. Visits are supported with doorknocking to answer any questions residents may have about waste sorting. Bin tagging is a targeted waste education tool to help our community sort their waste correctly. When our waste is sorted well, there is less cross-contamination, which reduces waste to landfill and saves the City and ratepayers money and protects the environment from harm. |
