Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Masih Alinejad

During a powerful appearance on MSNBC, Iranian dissident journalist Masih Alinejad held up her phone to show photos of women in Iran killed by the regime for protesting.

Alinejad appeared on Friday’s Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss the protests raging across Iran after Mahsa Amini died in police custody last week.

Amini was arrested by Tehran’s morality police on charges of wearing an importer hijab. While officials say she died of a heart attack, the public has largely rejected the government’s claim, and mass protests have broken out as result.

Alinejad reacted to the historic protests on Friday, likening the moment to "the Berlin Wall."

"If we cut this wall down, then the Islamic Republic won't exist," she told Andrea Mitchell.

"That is why it's different because clearly Iranian women are chanting against the dictators and that scares the regime. That is why they open fire on innocent people.”

She later held up her phone to the camera, explaining that she wanted to “use this opportunity and show” that Iranian women “are just not statistics."

She proceeded to swipe through pictures of women murdered by the regime for demonstrating.

The salient moment occurred after Alinejad spoke about her activism, highlighting constant death threats, in a new interview with the Independent.

She also joined Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Thursday, during which she condemned the Biden administration for issuing Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi a visa and allowing him to address the United Nations General Assembly following Amini's killing.

MEDIA LOSER:
Candace Owens

Candace Owens has once again suggested that Bill Gates is at the helm of a conspiracy.

This particular theory, which Owens touted on Thursday's edition of The Candace Owens Podcast, claims that Gates is causing meat allergies with manipulated mosquitoes.

Owens began the segment by referencing an Evie magazine article that connected Gates, who has invested in several 'synthetic meat'start-ups, to medical research with modified mosquitos.

Yes, In 2004, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation began funding the World Mosquito Program's Wolbachia project. Wolbachia, a naturally occurring bacteria, is used in research to help reduce mosquitoes' ability to transmit life-threatening viruses, such as the Zika virus.

Sounds pretty good, right? Not if Candace Owens has anything to say about it.

Challenging the mainstream media's narrative that Gates is a “good guy," Owens alleged that he could use the research to engineer mosquitoes that would make people consume artificial meat.

The Daily Wire host later scoffed at the notion that the theory "sounds crazy."

"Why would Bill Gates, who is the largest farmland owner in the United States and has been trying to impress upon us that we should not eat real meat and also have to operate a bunch of mosquitoes that are carrying around bacteria," she asked sarcastically, adding, "That’s gotta be a conspiracy theory."

While Owens is certain Gates is spending his funds to create more vegans, researchers backed by his foundation have instead recently engineered mosquitoes that slow the growth of malaria-causing parasites in their guts.
