Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Dana Bash

CNN’s Dana Bash got Sen.Rick Scott (R-FL) to squirm on air in an impressive interview Sunday.

Scott joined Bash to discuss the devastating impact Hurricane Ian had on his state, but was left squirming after the CNN anchor asked about former President Donald Trump referring to Elaine Chao as Mitch McConnell’s "China loving wife, Coco Chow."

Bash confronted the senator by asking if he was "okay with this" as the National Republican Senate Committee chairman.

Scott deflected, attributing the Chao jab to Trump's penchant for giving people nicknames, and naturally went on to attack Democrats instead.

"You can ask him how he came up with the nickname," Scott added. "I’m sure he has a nickname for me."

Scott went on to say, "We’ve got to watch how we spend our money," adding, "We’ve got to stop this inflation and I don’t condone violence and I hope no one else condones violence."

“Nicknames are one thing, but this appears racist,” Bash interjected. “Is that okay?”

“It’s never, ever okay to be racist,” Scott said, again failing to implicate Trump at all.

He then hoped "no one is racist," adding, "I hope no one says anything inappropriate, so I’m gonna do everything I can.”

In a second praiseworthy interview this Sunday, Bash pushed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to explain why he’s seeking federal help after Hurricane Ian when he opposed relief bills in the past for natural disasters in other states.

MEDIA LOSER:
Jeanine Pirro

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro has been singled out as a key figure intheDominion Voting Systems defamation case, as the company requested to question Pirro about messages showing her alleged role in spreading “verifiably false yet devastating lies” about the 2020 presidential election.

As first reported by NPR, according to documents filed Thursday in a Delaware courthouse, the voting systems company has targeted Pirro as central to its case.

Dominion says they obtained evidence exposing Pirro’s key role in the case and claims that Fox News produced some of the evidence moments before Pirro was meant to take the hot seat.

“Thirteen hours before her deposition, and several months since first requesting her deposition, Fox News produced several texts from Ms. Pirro,” the partially sealed public version of the filing states, followed by multiple lines of redactions.

A filing obtained by Mediaite's sister site Law&Crime also indicates that while Pirro took her deposition on Aug. 23, Dominion wants a chance to question her about the recently obtained messages.

According to Law&Crime's Adam Klasfeld, the messages refer to Pirro’s Nov. 14, 2020 interview with Sidney Powell, whichshe later promoted on Twitter without noting that such claims were unsupported.

Dominions lawyers reportedly wrote that Pirro's "role in the spread of this disinformation lies at the heart of Dominion’s claims.”

Sorry Pirro, but "the heart" of a $1.6 billion election defamation case is not a great place to be.
