Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Erin Burnett

Erin Burnett, who helms the 7 p.m. hour on CNN, drew the most viewers on the network in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic on Wednesday.

Burnett drew 172,000 viewers in the demo, beating out the rest of CNN and besting her timeslot rival on MSNBC, Joy Reid.

Despite that impressive demo number, however, her show placed behind MSNBC and Fox News in total viewers.

Burnett also scored impressive numbers on Jan. 27, helping CNN draw the most viewers in the 25-54 age demographic for its coverage of the footage of the Tyre Nichols beating.

The host drew 546,000 viewers in the demo for her coverage of the footage, outpacing Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters on Fox News, who pulled in 451,000 and 503,000 respectively.

In fact, Burnett's recent traffic has put her on the top of several cable news ratings -- earning her CNN's highest-rated show in total viewers last month.

She brought in 649,000 total average viewers on Jan. 18th, outpacing her entire network and putting her in third place behind Jesse Watters’s 2.77 million viewers on Fox News and Joy Reid’s 1.09 million viewers on MSNBC.

Her numbers are particularly notable when considering the rest of her network's ratings, as CNN consistently falls behind Fox News and MSNBC and has failed to achieve significant growth since Jeff Zucker’s departure.

MEDIA LOSER:
Eric Bolling and
David J. Harris Jr.

Newsmax host Eric Bolling introduced a particularly sexist segment called “Date, Debate, Deport" on Thursday, during which podcaster David J. Harris Jr. recommended The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg be “deported” to Africa to better appreciate “what she has here in America.”

Bolling presented three categories, "ladies of The View, ladies in the White House, and ladies on Capitol Hill," and asked Harris Jr. which of three chosen "ladies" he would "date, debate, or deport."

The bit is a play on the popular and ridiculous “date, marry, kill” where people pick what they would hypothetically do to one of three typically famous people. The demeaning and sexist nature of the segment alone would be enough to deem Bolling today's loser. But Harris kicked i up a notch.

The host started the segment off by using Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sunny Hostin as the first three targets.

“I think Whoopi just needs to be deported. I think she just needs to go over and actually spend some time in Africa and, maybe, she’ll learn to appreciate what she has here in America,” Harris said.

Goldberg grew up in New York City. He also chose to date Hostin because she “maybe could be reached if the mood was right.”

The segment continued in similar fashion, pretty much stripping accomplished women of their credentials by determining whether or not you would date them, and referring to them as "ladies."
