Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino

Fox News’s 9 to 11 a.m. morning news show, America’s Newsroom, crushed its CNN and MSNBC competition on Friday.

Anchors Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino brought in over 2.2 million total viewers during both hours of their show, beating every show on CNN and MSNBC and all but four other hours on cable news Friday.

This wouldn’t be the first time. America’s Newsroom almost always bests the competition — by a lot.

On Thursday, the show more than tripled CNN Newsroom's total viewers during the 9 a.m. hour. And during the 10 a.m. hour, America's Newsroom still earned more than double CNN's total viewers.

In both January and February, the show landed as the eighth-most-watched show on cable news, only falling behind Fox News' The Five, Tucker Carlson Tonight, Jesse Watters Primetime, Hannity, Special Report with Bret Baier, The Ingraham Angle, Gutfeld!, and Outnumbered.

While CNN and MSNBC also saw a boost during Friday's mid-morning hours, the ratings were nowhere near those scored by Hemmer and Perino.

CNN scored 744,000 viewers at 9 a.m, while MSNBC’s 4th hour of Morning Joe averaged 925,000.

Hemmer and Perino's show consistently scores impressive numbers that not only best those of its direct competition, but have marked America's Newsroom as a top 10 show on cable news.

MEDIA LOSER:
Tucker Carlson

When scores of even hard-right Republican senators are blasting your reporting as "bullshit" and your own network is refusing to cover your supposed bombshell revelations, it might be time for some self-reflection.

Unfortunately, that's something Tucker Carlson has proved he's incapable of doing.

On Monday night, Carlson began to roll out clips of the insurrection, hand-picked by the host out of the 41,000 hours of January 6 surveillance footage granted to him by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Carlson, who has repeatedly downplayed the Jan. 6 riot, ignored various facts from the copious amount of court documents, guilty pleas, and heartwrenching under-oath testimonies to depict the attack as a primarily non-violent affair carried out by "sightseers" who had reverence for the U.S. Capitol.

The blowback was quick and severe. Media figures and pundits, politicians from both sides of the aisle, the family of fallen Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, as well as U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger, condemned Carlson for rewriting history.

While Carlson's segment was poised as a bombshell revelation on January 6 (despite what essentially every American saw with their own eyes), Fox News has largely ignored it, implying even Carlson's own network recognized the absurdity of his comments.
