Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jen Psaki

Jen Psaki's namesake weekly show is set to launch on MSNBC this Sunday, and network President Rashida Jones is already branding it as a leader in a "new wave of programming."

MSNBC announced the former White House press secretary's promotion last month, and the media move comes after the network gave Symone Sanders, another former Biden administration spokesperson, a weekend show.

In a February press release, MSNBC described the show as “policy and political discussions with lighter fare like human-interest profiles of politicians, celebrities, and athletes.” The focus on politics seems to mark a way for MSNBC to enter the Sunday talk show sphere, which is generally dominated by broadcast networks.

"What we've seen from you from behind the podium to being in the room and at the table has been nothing short of extraordinary," Jones said while celebrating Psaki at a private dinner. "They've seen you in so many capacities and now audiences will see you in a different light.”

In an interview with Variety, Psaki vowed to at least try to layout any nuance in news and explained she wants her show to “lower the temperature” on hot-button topics.

Congratulations to Psaki for her upcoming show, as she could just become the one to watch for political news.

MEDIA LOSER:
Michael Knowles

Daily Wire host Michael Knowles offered an eyebrow-raising answer on his podcast this week to a question about whether or not the U.S. should bring back public executions – fully endorsing them.

During a Q&A session on The Michael Knowles Show, the host said the nation should "certainly" bring back public executions, reasoning that "people just don’t see death period anymore. We used to see death.”

The Yale-educated, former actor clarified that while he does not want more people dying, he believes that in order for people to "recognize that death does happen," they should be exposed to it more regularly. He went on to fault modern funerals as "brief little celebrations of life," lamenting that the ceremony no longer resembles a "proper funeral."

Knowles later criticized those who live their lives without constantly reminding themselves of their impending deaths, macabrely adding, "You are living your life as a preparation to die."

After the somewhat somber meditation on the importance of acknowledging death, Knowles returned to public executions, arguing they would "help us to have a little memento mori, of course."

Knowles' argument that one must spectate a public execution, or refuse to live a life removed from death to fully understand it is incredibly grim and bizarrely radical.
