Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jon Karl

ABC News' Jon Karl conducted an intense interview with Former Vice President Mike Pence — during which Karl directly asked about Donald Trump defending his supporters after they attempted to hunt down and execute Pence.

Pence spoke with Karl as Trump has called for his supporters to protest the possibility that the former president will be indicted over the Stormy Daniels hush money scandal.

During their conversation, Karl asked Pence about Trump attempting to blame him for the Jan. .6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"But his attorneys were wrong, and President Trump is wrong," Pence replied. "I know by God’s grace we did our duty that day."

Karl followed up by rolling audio from an interview he conducted with Trump in 2021 — during which Trump defended the Capitol rioters chanting “Hang Mike Pence” because the vice president refused Trump’s unconstitutional demand to over turn his 2020 election defeat.

Pence told Karl he was "angry that day," as the president let him down, adding, "and while I believe in forgiveness, I have been working hard at that for a while."

Karl went on to ask Pence another great question -- "Could you ever support him again for president?" -- which Pence could neither confirm nor deny.

MEDIA LOSER:
Simon Ateba

Today News Africa reporter Simon Ateba managed to turn Monday's White House press briefing into a screaming match ... despite the fact that the cast offamily favorite comedyTed Lasso was in the room.

Ateba essentially derailed the celebrity appearance -- meant to draw attention to mental health -- by lamenting the fact that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre does not call on him enough.

He has launched the same accusation several times before, and on Monday claimed she has been purposefully ignoring him for months because she doesn’t like his questions.

“We’re not doing this! We’re not doing!” Jean-Pierre said as Ateba began yelling from the back of the room.

Jean-Pierre, along with Jason Sudeikis and the rest of the Ted Lasso cast, silently watched on as other reporters turned on Ateba.

“Simon, the rest of us are here too, pal!” one reporter yelled as Ateba compared Jean-Pierre's behavior to Russia and China.

Jean-Pierre offered an apology to the Lasso cast amid the chaos, which they graciously accepted despite Ateba's attempts to make the briefing all about himself.

The press secretary later addressed Ateba and said his behavior was “unacceptable," reminding the press that they were seated in a historic room, which "should have decorum."
