Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Gabriella Karefa-Johnson

Kanye West is once again back in the headlines for reasons other than his music or art. His latest stunt involved proudly displaying "White Lives Matter" shirts at his fashion label's latest show, a troll that has prompted protests across the industry.

But it was his nasty attack on Vogue contributor editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson that really sparked furor.

Karefa-Johnson had, along with many in the industry, criticized West's embrace of the slogan. She accused him of “indefensible behaviour” and an “incredibly irresponsible and dangerous act.”

In response, West took to his massively popular Instagram page to mock Karefa-Johnson's appearance — in tweets that have since been deleted.

Vogue posted a statement to its Instagram page insisting it "stands" with the editor, who it said was "targeted and bullied."

Others rallied around Karefa-Johnson against West, including longtime friend and collaborator Tremaine Emory, now the creative director of fashion label Supreme.

Emory called Karefa-Johnson "beautiful" and said to West: "Your not a victim your just an insecure narcissist that’s dying for validation from the fashion world."

"You wish u had a percentage of her intellect," supermodel Gigi Hadid commented on West's post mocking Karefa-Johnson. "You're a bully and a joke."

West has continued playing offense on his own Instagram page, blasting out and then deleting posts taking aim at everyone from LVMH owner Bernard Arnaud to his estranged wife Kim Kardashian.

Vogue confirmed in its statement that Karefa-Johnson met with West for several hours after the insults. She also just took to Instagram to very gracefully address the attacks.

Good for this renowned fashion editor for taking the high road after facing the wrath of one of our culture's loudest antagonists.

MEDIA LOSER:
Dana Loesch

Ignoring hypocrisy from political candidates is a time-honored tradition. Plenty of family-values conservatives made the judgment, when they elected thrice-married Playboy cover star Donald Trump, that they care more about the conservative judges he appointed while in office than the body parts he groped behind closed doors.

Conservative pundit Dana Loesch wholeheartedly embraced that cold political calculation this week when she proudly declared she did not care one bit about the scandal plaguing Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

The Daily Beast reported Tuesday that Herschel, a staunch anti-abortion candidate in Georgia, encouraged a former girlfriend to get an abortion and eventually paid for the procedure.

Herschel has denied the report. But the Beast has evidence, and Herschel has dubious explanations.

There is other evidence Walker is not a great guy. He has a staggering quantity of secret children. One has accused him of violence. His ex-wife says he put a gun to her head and almost killed her.

Loesch doesn't care about that.

"Does this change anything?" she asked on her radio show. "Not a damn thing. How many times have I said four very important words. These four words: winning is a virtue."

"Keep in mind that I am concerned about one thing," she continued. "I don’t care if Herschel Walker paid to abort endangered baby eagles. I want control of the Senate."

“I don’t know if he did it or not,” Loesch added. “I don’t even care.”

Her argument makes one wonder, and then shudder, about just what kind of bad behavior Dana Loesch would accept from a Republican senate candidate.

She concluded by calling the anonymous woman who accused Walker of impregnating her a "skank", and other women who seek abortions "skanks" — the cherry on top of a truly bad take.
