Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jen Psaki

Jen Psaki is getting promoted to the anchor chair at MSNBC.

MSNBC announced Tuesday that President Joe Biden's former press secretaryis getting her own weekly show.

The show, titled Inside With Jen Psaki, will premiere on March 19 and air Sundays at noon on MSNBC and will later be available to view on Peacock.

The move comes after MSNBC gave Symone Sanders, another former Biden administration spokesperson, a weekend show.

The show seems to mark a way for MSNBC to enter the Sunday political talk show sphere, which is generally dominated by broadcast networks.

The New York Times spoke with Psaki following the news, reporting that “she hoped to invite Republicans onto her program, and NBC representatives, seeking to emphasize her independence, pointed to her occasional on-air quibbles with the Biden administration.”

The show is set to focus on “policy and political discussions with lighter fare like human-interest profiles of politicians, celebrities, and athletes.”

“I am not going on television to be a mouthpiece,” Psaki said.

“I’m very conscious of the fact that people know who I am because I was standing behind a podium speaking on behalf of Joe Biden… I am not going to gratuitously attack him, nor am I going to gratuitously applaud him. If he deserves applause, I will applaud him. If he deserves critique, I will critique him.”

It’s a significant promotion for Psaki — and if she helps MSNBC improve their weekend ratings, she could become the one to watch for political news.

MEDIA LOSER:
Ben Shapiro

Ben Shapiro doubled down on his bizarre criticism of comedian Chelsea Handler for her choice to remain childless.

While guest hosting The Daily Show earlier this month, Handler posted a satyrical video titled, “Day in the Life of a Childless Woman,” on her Twitter account.

Although the video was clearly comedic in nature, as it was made by a ... comedian, some, including Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro, were outraged by the clip.

“This lady is miserable. I mean, she is miserable, and it’s written all over her face how miserable she is," Shapiro first said of Handler, prompting her to give him a shout out in a follow up clip. "Thank you for helping my cause of not having children. Who needs the birth control pill when your voice is 100 percent effective,” Handler said.

Instead of putting the rift to rest, Shapiro insisted that Handler is very lonely on a recent edition of The Ben Shapiro Show.

He went on to brag about his own family life, noting that he has been married for 15 years and that his wife is pregnant with their fourth child. He then accused her of drowning her sorrows in "enormous barrels of wine," seemingly unaware that a woman who does not want to become a mother would likely opt for barrels of wine over four children.

"See, here’s the thing about happy people. They don’t spend their whole life telling you how happy they are while their eyes tell you a different story," he added shortly after telling his own audience how happy he is.

Going after a woman for merely deciding not to have children is pretty low, and certainly does not qualify as a topic that merits weeks of attention.
