Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart magnificently grilled Mark Brnovich, the Republican attorney general of Arizona, over his inability to admit that there was no evidence of election fraud during the 2020 election.

While Brnovich conceded that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, he failed to say there was no fraud present while sitting down with Stewart for his AppleTV+ show The Problem with Jon Stewart.

Since election denialism has been a recurring topic of American political discourse ahead of the midterm elections, Stewart pressed Brnovich to publicly reject Trump’s conspiratorial claims that Arizona’s 2020 results were corrupted by mass fraud.

In the clip -- a preview of Friday's episode -- Brnovich referred to “millions of people…throughout this country that think the election was stolen.”

Stewart turned to Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about the election, noting how “none of that was real” — specifically citing the ex-president’s claims regarding Arizona.

Brnovich responded by saying “we’ve run a lot of this stuff to ground” with his investigations, so Stewart asked “when you get it to ground, will you come out and say ‘Donald J. Trump is wrong. The election was fair, not stolen, and not fraudulent?'”

Props to Stewart for avoiding the bait and continuing to press Brnovich on the repeatedly disproved notion that there was election fraud in Arizona.

Stewart later straight up laughed at Brnovich for claiming he’s still waiting for “all of the facts and evidence," once again stopping the attorney general from playing both sides.

"The law is you have fact and you have fiction," Stewart exclaimed.

"The fact is the election in Arizona was well-run, not stolen, and not fraudulent from Donald Trump, according to even your investigation. Why is it so hard to just say yes to that?”

MEDIA LOSER:
Newsmax's Benny Johnson

Benny Johnson inexplicably claimed the violence of the Jan. 6 riot was exaggerated while arguing "you can't find any moment where the right has behaved violently" on air Tuesday.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is going to create a thing that we have been warning about for a long time on this program, which is desperation," Johnson said of the left on his podcast.

"So the desperation in the left, the desperation the left will have as they have been radicalized and turned into drooling, feral, braindead lizards by the corporate press, is that they are going to start behaving violently. And this is what happens in all fascistic movements," he continued.

After claiming the left is on its way to becoming feral (?) Johnson exclaimed that one could not find a single example of the right behaving violently.

"You can't," he added. "You can find some jackasses that pushed cops around at the Capitol."

He went on to lament the attention the media gave the Jan. 6 attack, saying, "I am sick of hearing of January 6, and I truly hope that Republicans have the balls to go and start to investigate and to erode and to lock up and to throw away the keys some of these goons that create political violence on the left."

The left, of course, does not have a monopoly on violence. Neither does the right. Putting aside the insurrection, there have been violent attacks on both abortion providers and pro-life centers since the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade.

Johnson later said he wanted to see those on the left who commit violence "in chains" and "perp walked," though he didn't cite examples of violence.

While Johnson attempted to downplay the Capitol attack as the fault of "some jackasses," the crowd used guns, pipes, and other weapons to beat back police and storm the Capitol.

The attack left five people dead and resulted in the suicide of four Capitol Police officers. 150 officers in total were wounded in the riot.
