MEDIA WINNER: Trey Yingst
In a heart-wrenching op-ed published Sunday by USA Today, Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst revealed that he has been dealing with post-traumatic stress from his time in Ukraine.
“The past year, while covering the war in Ukraine, I have reported under incoming fire, seen lifeless bodies strewn across landscapes and experienced complex grief that I still process today,” Yingst wrote.
Yingst shared that he doesn’t anticipate the trauma he has been dealing with will go away any time soon, revealing that the invasion of Ukraine was especially difficult for him to witness.
He was candid about the cost of covering war, opening up about his trauma and revealing, his time in Ukraine altered his "life and mind forever."
Yingst, however, assured readers that despite the challenges, he does not regret staying to cover such a violent war after most of the Fox News had pulled out.
The correspondent said that he feels a responsibility to help “normalize the discussion around mental health,” and advocated for mental health resources — which he says his network has provided.
Yingst has delivered consistently impressive reporting throughout the invasion, and through this op-ed, opened up about the horrors of war and the impact it has on people. |
