Dear friends of nature and animals,

On Thursday morning, a CABS team witnessed a bird of prey massacre on
Mount Lebanon. In the mountain range to the east of the capital Beirut,
hundreds of Honey Buzzards roosted in the scrub over night, in the
morning the poachers grouped and shot at least 50 buzzards. Several
birds fell to the feet of our team. The day before, together with staff
from our Lebanese partner organization SPNL, the team also found a "bird
of prey cemetery" with 18 dead Honey Buzzards and Marsh Harriers. How
many birds are being killed on a daily basis cannot be confirmed – but
the numbers will go into the thousands. The main reason for the
disappearance of this species is probably due to the widespread and
indiscriminate poaching in the Middle East.

We hope to use this material to draw attention to the very serious issue
of illegal poaching occurring in the Lebanon. We have produced a short
video to summarise our shocking findings – in the first hours after we
published it on Youtube and Facebook, it has reached more than 60,000
people. You'll find the 15 minute movie here:
