Dear friends and supporters,

Update, in case you have not seen our recent action via social media:

Our Lebanon protest against the sale of Blackcaps was successful!

After so many of you responded to our protest call demanding the Lebanese supermarket chain "Bou Khalil" remove the illegally offered Blackcap from their shelves in their 12 branches, they reacted within a few days, and as before, with the chain "Spinneys" on Monday announced that they are removing the birds from their range. Our local partners have inspected some branches in the past few days and can confirm that the birds are no longer available. Thank you for participating and making this success possible!

Bou Khalil was significantly more cooperative than Spinneys. Whilst the Spinneys Lebanon CEO had complained to us about the action in September, the people at Bou Khalil seemed visibly horrified and very anxious. The management also gave us this message -  via our Facebook page:

"Hi, thank you for pointing out this issue. We have stopped the sale of Blackcap in all our stores since we do not support the hunting of protected species."

Of course, we remain cautious in our euphoria and our local partners will regularly check both the stores of "Spinneys" and "Bou Khalil" on whether or not the two supermarket chains will keep to their word.

Many thanks and best regards from the Bird Protection Camp in Brescia, Italy.
