Good morning, Marketer, and why be haunted by labels?

I’m thinking specifically about direct mail and the metaverse, the two cringy ghosts of marketing past and future.

Who uses direct mail? Savvy delivery apps, the future of e-commerce.

A marketing presence on one channel should take consumers to another channel. That’s why the metaverse isn’t a single place, but many places across virtual, hybrid and augmented experiences.

Marketers have to keep moving in order to keep up with customers who are in many places at once. If you’re a brand, you shouldn’t ghost the consumer.

Name change. The Direct Marketing Club of New York has announced a new name. After four decades in existence, the professional organization will now be known as “Marketing Club of New York.” Current club President, Alicia Wiedemann, said the organization wanted to move away from associations with direct marketing and direct mail, although the data-driven strategy forged by this techniques is more prevalent than ever in the digital age. A winning submission by a team of Pace University marketing students was selected as the new logo, which can be seen here.
