California Sues Meta Over Youth Marketing
Oakland, CA A lawsuit filed in California claims that Meta's Instagram and Facebook have “profoundly altered the psychological and social realities of a generation of young Americans" by knowingly and deliberately designing features that addict young people to its platforms. The lawsuit, which is filed in 33 states, alleges that such features are contributing to the youth mental health crisis. According to the complaint, its motive is profit.

Santa Clara, CA To help hundreds and thousands of Camp LeJeune plaintiffs claiming contaminated water caused serious health issues, lawyers have filed a Master Complaint outlining and defining all their common allegations and claims. And to streamline litigation for bringing new Camp LeJeune lawsuits, plaintiffs can take some of these allegations and claims and adopt them in a Short Form complaint. Each plaintiff, however, is still required to individually establish that their injury is “at least as likely as not” caused by exposure to water on the base.

San Jose, CA How much can former employees be ordered to keep secret? That is the issue with Apple and chip startup Rivos. In August 2022 the tech giant slammed Rivos and two employees with a California labor lawsuit alleging breach of contract and violation of the Defend Trade Secrets Act. In a countersuit, Rivos claims that Apple forces employees to sign restrictive agreements that prevent them from working elsewhere and stifle up-and-coming companies that hire its staff.

Exposure to PFAS Doubles Cancer Risk in Women
Ann Arbor, MI A study, published on September 18 in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology suggests that exposure to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS and PFOA) compounds greatly increases the risk of melanoma, ovarian and uterine cancers in women. The precise mechanism is unknown, but PFAS exposure appears to affect the immune and hormonal systems, liver function and other bodily processes.
